On our trip to Paterson Great Falls, the class learned about how the city of Paterson was put on the map because of Alexander Hamilton's use of the waterfall to provide a source of power and life for the environment. It was one of America's first planned industrial cities and is now a National Historic Landmark, along with other prestigious awards. We mainly enjoyed going to the museum and seeing how the buildings that stood in the late 1700s are still standing in good condition. Two trips that we liked the most were to the Meadowlands and the tour around the FDU campus. The Meadowlands trip gave us a chance to go out on the water and look at different animals and sea life. Taking a class on a trip will be a good way to get kids out of a classroom and see things for themselves.

The site(s) with possibly the most germs may be the wall or a doorknob. Our lesson today went good, but we needed to have better classroom management. The students loved the experiment, especially using their own toys to see if they would float in the water. On the other hand, we had all boys and they were not always sharing with their classmates. This was something that could be handled, but if it were to happen in an actual classroom, we could try to have the students separated or not have specific toys included in the project. Our presentation is going well, but we could be moving faster along. The link is below.

We are falling a little behind, since we have changed our topic twice within a few days. Originally we started with Transportation by water, then to Density which proved to be a difficult subject for the first graders to grasp, so we settled on just presenting Sink vs Float. Lesson planning is very tedious and can be easy to mess up if you don't begin with the right Objective. The program World Flush is using would be Prezi, because it gives you a great presentation and also gives you a chance to personalize it to your subject by including videos, pictures, audio, etc. The Final Presentation should be fantastic for our last chance to show others how much this program has helped change our perspectives on teaching and its requirements.

Today we read to the Camp Discovery students, most who were rising 3rd and 4th graders. Most of the kids were able to connect with the books the STA students had chosen, i.e., Natalia's two CD girls were very excited with the book, but on the other hand, Ariana's student was very disinterested with everything she had to offer. A different way to approach a read-aloud would be to have a second book on hand so that the student will show interest in the book that he/she picked. The most important part of a lesson that we learned is to keep the student engaged before going into the actual lesson.

On our field trip today, we learned about the Meadowlands/ Hackensack
River and how the enviormental system works. It costs a lot of money to
maintain it and to take the pollution out. We enjoyed saving the other
boat with half of our group on it. When planning a field trip, a teacher
needs to keep into consideration the cost, transportation, safety,
chaperones, educators (people who will be explaining the sites you
visit), permission slips, and activities.

We wanted to research transportation by ships in history. Ships were used to discover new land and to also bring supplies by sea to foreign countries. We would use the egg drop activity in our lesson plans as a hands-on experience to show how gravity works in different ways. The strategies we learned for reading aloud were very fun, and the class even had a book read to us by a fellow classmate, which was a great way to practice these skills and to also give us an idea of what we should and shouldn't do.
